The ultra-competitive 50 Cent loves pitting his Starz TV series Power against rival shows for laughs, and on Monday (Aug. 7), he turned his attention to Gabrielle Union and her BET show Being Mary Jane, after the actress chimed in on 50’s boastful commentary on Instagram.
“Remember that other show that thought they were in competition with Power, what happened to it?” 50 wrote on Instagram. “I don’t hear anyone talking shit anymore. Now I’m gonna take over BET.”
Rather than be combative, Union remained reserved in contrast to her adversary. “I don’t compete with other artists, only celebrate,” Union wrote. “Enough space for all of us to succeed. Cheers to Power and cheers to other creative folks uplifting each other. ALL our programming could use more shine, so I opt to [uplift]. I know that celebrating others in no way dims my shine. Keep shining @50cent.”
Because of his friendly relationship with her husband, NBA star Dwyane Wade, 50 kept things relatively playful when he responded to Union’s comment. “@gabunion I’m never gonna argue with you because your Wades lady,” he wrote. “I like Wade, I got a lot of respect for him. This post has nothing to do with you, but you know I’m gonna be #1 at BET, and I want you to know your Mary Jane show is welcome to stay on my network. LOL.”
For the past couple of weeks, the boisterous star vented on social media about his desires to pull Power off the Starz network. With three more episodes left for this upcoming season, we’ll see what direction the “In Da Club” rapper decides to go.
